POULSBO — A Toyota Highlander SUV crashed into the front window of Payless ShoeSource Monday on Market Place in Poulsbo. The driver — a Brinnon woman in her 70s — was apparently distracted and thought her vehicle was in park when her foot hit the accelerator, Poulsbo Police Sgt. Andy Pate said. The woman was not cited.

The collision shattered several panes of glass and cracked the building's facade but injured no one.

Payless Assistant Manager Demi Ratzel was behind the counter when the crash happened at about 12:30 p.m. One customer was browsing through the children's aisle. Ratzel said the sound of shattering glass was was so loud it hurt her ears.

"I didn't see much I just heard it and ran," she said.

The SUV sustained some front end damage. A police officer backed the vehicle out of the window before releasing it to the driver.
