Emily Cauter, a senior at North Kitsap High School, cried as she walked by the crash scene Thursday in front of the school tennis courts.

Fortunately, the crash was staged.

Public service agencies and the school district presented the event to educate students about the dangers of driving while under the influence; a similar event was held at Kingston High School.

Jamie Walkowski, who portrayed the crash victim in this photo, later spoke eloquently about the loss of his best friend, who died last year because of a driver who was under the influence. Other speakers included Nicholas Polito, whose brother Anthony was one of two teens killed in the crash on Finn Hill Road Feb. 5.
