Six apply for seat on county commission

Six people applied this week for the soon-to-be vacant District 1 seat on the Kitsap Board of County Commissioners.

Kitsap County Democratic Central Committee received applications from Robert Gelder of Poulsbo, Glen Godfrey of Kingston, Sam Granato of Bainbridge Island, Linda Berry-Maraist of Poulsbo, Clarence Moriwaki of Bainbridge Island and Laurie Serdahl of Poulsbo, according to a statement released by the committee Friday.

The committee is taking applications to fill the District 1 seat held by Steve Bauer of Hansville. Bauer announced in January he will resign his post at the end of February. The District 1 commissioner represents North Kitsap and Bainridge Island.

The deadline for applications was 4 p.m. Friday. Committee Chair Michael Arnold said he received nine requests for applications but three were not returned.

Precinct Committee Officers will meet Feb. 22 to nominate three of the applicants to the Board of Commissioners. Commissioners Josh Brown and Charlotte Garrido make the final decision on Bauer's replacement and can choose a candidate not nominated by the Democratic Central Committee.
