Poulsbo severe weather shelter ready for winter

A severe weather shelter at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo is on alert to accept those in need of emergency lodging through the winter months.

The shelter, at 18920 Fourth Street, will be activated in cases severe weather between now and March 31.

Other shelters have been established in Bremerton at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 700 Callahan Avenue, and at The Coffee Oasis, 822 Burwell Street. The Coffee Oasis serves teens only.

Shelters will open when temperatures are expected to fall below 32 degrees for four or more hours overnight, when an inch or more of snow is expected or when an inch or more of rain is expected to fall for two or more days.

Shelters operate from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.
