Rare shark find in Liberty Bay

A Seattle Aquarium employee was headed out Wednesday morning to take samples of the carcass and determine which type of shark it is. The Department of Fish and Wildlife said the agency is currently conducting an aging study of 6-gill sharks. Liver and tissue samples will be taken. Sewage systems ripe for update
Jun 10 2008, 4:24 PM KINGSTON — This Wednesday, locals will get up close and personal with their onsite sewage systems. The Kitsap County Health District is hosting a public meeting to explain proposed changes to its regulations regarding the setups and how they will bring the county up to, or beyond, state requirements.

Keith Grellner, the district’s deputy director of environmental health, said residents may want to pencil the 6:30 p.m. meeting into their schedule as there are some proposed regulations they will want to know about if they have an onsite sewage system. One such change is a required inspection of the system before property changes ownerships.

Public could chime in on casino by March
Jun 10 2008, 4:23 PM LITTLE BOSTON — North End residents will have to wait a little longer before a public meeting regarding the new Point Casino.

The Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe is still working through the program that will revel casino plans and potential designs, and hopes to present it to different community groups and residents in March. The already stated nearly 100,000 square-foot casino and hotel resort was hoped to be constructed by the end of 2008, but that aggressive schedule has been pushed back slightly, said tribal Chief Executive Officer Doug Quade. Promising a public meeting as early as December 2007, he said that timeline has also been pushed back to meet when the casino program will be completed.

"We're about four weeks from completing the program," he said. "That includes design and finance stuff, and a financial schedule and contracting. We're confirming the program. We're considering doing (public meetings)."
