TACOMA The road most traveled this weekend ended with two North Kitsap/Kingston gymnasts placing in the state competition. The NKK Vikaneers wore a groove in the pavement between North Kitsap and the Tacoma Dome this weekend, driving back and forth for the WIAA state gymnastics championship.

TACOMA Blythe Peterson did Kingston High proud in its first wrestling season out of the gate. The 145-pounder earned fifth place at the girls 4A Washington State Mat Classic XX Championship at the Tacoma Dome on Saturday.She came to wrestle, to tell you the truth, said Buccaneers head coach Bobby Reece. This was a wrestler who competed at the state tournament last year, and she knew what it was all about. It didnt surprise me that she did well.
Fellow Bucs Alex Lambert, Willis Castle and Logan Hixon all went two-and-out in the double elimination tournament.

POULSBO Defense secured the Poulsbo Middle Panthers basketball teams season opener win against Klahowya Eagles Tuesday, 55-30.I thought we played real well once we switched to man-to-man defense, said head coach Glen Godfrey. That changed the game.
Godfrey said three key players led the team to victory, Delanee Nilles with 14 points and nine steals, Lexi Simmons sunk 12 points and grappled for 10 rebounds while Indika Bray posted 10 baskets.

POULSBO The Poulsbo Middle Panthers added another win to its already flawless record, as it pounced McMurray Middle School of Vashon Island, 51-30.Led by a strong defense, the young basketball team boosted its record to 3-0 on Thursday afternoon.
Again the win was a case of our defense stepping up and causing turnovers, said head coach Glen Godfrey. We also ran the fast break better than we have in the past.
