State ferry Walla Walla delayed because of onboard car accident

The state ferry Walla Walla is running about 15 minutes late because of an onboard car accident on an earlier run. The mishap was expected to affect the 2:30 and 4 p.m. sailings from Kingston and the 3:15 and 4:45 p.m. sailings from Edmonds.

In their final meeting of 2011, North Kitsap Fire & Rescue commissioners Tuesday night signed contracts with employee groups that cap wage increases at 0 percent for the next three years. The contract sealed the latest in a series of cost-saving measures to help the district maintain levels of service as property tax revenues – about 90 percent of fire district funding – continue to drop.

A tugboat that ran aground around 9 p.m. Thursday night in Kingston's Apple Tree Cove was refloated and escorted to Port Townsend for inspection, but lost power again at 9:45 a.m. today.

As of Jan. 15, The Zone Sportsplex will no longer exist. Sportsplex employee Josh Kostic confirmed Tuesday the business would close. He made no further comment. Calls to owner Brian Edgren have not been returned.
