Battle on the field: Spartans overcome Bucs in final minutes
The Bainbridge Island Spartans won their second game of the season against the Kingston Buccaneers Friday, Sept. 10 at the North Kitsap High School stadium.  - Brad Camp Sep 17 2010, 9:42 AM Even with a stream of penalties throughout the game, the Bainbridge Island Spartans narrowly defeated the Kingston Buccaneers on Friday.

The Spartans won their second game in a row and put the Bucs at a 1-1 record for the preseason at the North Kitsap High School football field.

Although the Bucs were ahead by more than a touchdown for the majority of the game, the outcome quickly changed with a punt block and final touchdown by the Spartans.

Port Orchard man shot and killed by off-duty state trooper
Sep 13 2010, 5:32 PM An off-duty Washington State Patrol trooper shot and killed a 30-year-old Port Orchard man alleged to have attacked him in his yard Saturday night.

Cpl. Jason Blankers, 36, told investigators with the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office he noticed a vehicle enter his driveway on the 8000 block of SE Nelson Road, near Olalla, at about 11:27 p.m., according to a statement from the office.

Blankers told a family member to call 911, walked outside with a handgun and identified himself as law enforcement, the statement said.
