Jun 22 2010, 6:18 PM KINGSTON — Fireworks will fly in Kingston this year, after a $12,000 contribution last week from the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe rocketed the Fourth of July Celebration committee past its fundraising goal.

Lackluster fundraising nearly muffled the yearly display over Apple Tree Cove this year.

State seeking comment on plan for Hansville toxins cleanup
Jun 28 2010, 5:24 PM HANSVILLE — The state Department of Ecology has a plan for cleaning up a portion of the contaminated Hansville General Store site , in case a full cleanup isn't possible.

Ecology released the interim work plan for the site Monday and will take public comments from July 2 through Aug. 2.

The $1.1. million cleanup project, scheduled for September , is one of several vying for a slice of federal stimulus funds being offered through the Environmental Protection Agency. Ecology spokesman Larry Altose said his department won't find out if the project is in line for funding until later this summer.

Kingston man arrested following 14-mile pursuit
Jun 29 2010, 5:17 PM A 38-year-old Kingston man was arrested Tuesday morning, after leading law enforcement on a 14-mile chase through North Kitsap in a stolen newspaper delivery van.

The Sheriffs Office received a report of a van stolen from Kingston Arco AM-PM on State Route 104 at 2:47 a.m. The driver left the 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager idling in the parking lot while she delivered newspapers inside the store.

Fifteen minutes after the theft was reported, a second newspaper delivery driver spotted the stolen van traveling south on Suquamish Way. The driver the van as it turned west on State Route 305 and sped up to 90 mph.
