Port Orchard comes alive with art and music during the town Artwalk today.

The monthly event, spearheaded earlier this summer by the Bay Street Merchants Association as a way to increase traffic in its business core, brings a wealth of local artists and musicians into downtown Port Orchard for the afternoon.

More than 30 venues — including the town baker, the town pub and a smattering of restaurants and salons, in addition to those places where you’d expect to find art like the Sidney Art Gallery and Bay Street Custom Framing — will dedicate their wall space to a different local artist each month. This month, renown sumi artist Patrice Bruzas will be featured at The Manchester/A Big Idea Gallery while colored pencil whiz Christy Camerer will be at the Olde Central Antique Mall and sculptor James Kelsey posts up at the Orchard Theater — just to name a few.

Being an event somewhat dependent on decent weather, as the calendar fades into fall, this afternoon might be one of the last good Artwalk afternoons of the year in Port Orchard. See www.portorchard.com for upcoming events

Also, next week, downtown Poulsbo hosts an artwalk of its own from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 25. For more to that end, see poulsboartwalk.com.
