What’s Up has long embraced the local arts and entertainment scene like no other publication in Kitsap County.
Local artists, thespians and musicians have always been our primary focus and our commitment to the local scene remains unwavering. But now we’re going to be your go-to publication for a wider spectrum of issues.
Starting with publication this week, we’ll write about the great outdoors, home and garden and other lifestyle venues and issues. And we’re doing it all with a visual revamp that adds style to compliment our new substance.
We’re also bringing in some new voices — some you may recognize.
They all were chosen with our readers in mind. We found people to whom our readers can relate and who can inspire and entertain.
To whet your palette for good food, Kingston’s own Patrick Momany, boucanier extraordinaire, will be writing about what he knows best: cooking meat over an open flame. He is the owner of TaTu BBQ, LLC located at 11133 N. Maine Ave in Kingston. As a sideline, Momany is currently raising money to travel to Germany to feed wounded U.S. troops on the Fourth of July.
Also on our roster is Seabeck resident Lisa Ballou, who heads up the Kitsap TriBabes. Ballou, a four-time IronMan triathlete herself, is famous — and infamous — for turning everyday women into triathletes through twice weekly training sessions and face-to-face prodding.
The West Sound Booksellers, a conglomerate of local bookstore owners, also have a say. They’ll be discussing local literature and offering up reading lists.
And, just for fun, submariner by day and graphic artist by night Patrick Hrabe, the creator of “Hey, Shipwreck,” will drop by every now and again. “Hey, Shipwreck” is a wildly popular web-based cartoon chronicling two sailors’ adventures in the futuristic United Space Navy.
