Free events slated for celebration throughout the month.

Liberty Bay Books, Poulsbo's community bookstore, turns 13 this month with a March full of activities and readings and chances to meet and greets with local authors to celebrate.

It all kicks off at 11 a.m. March 7 with storytime for kids featuring local children’s authors and a birthday party for the bookstore baby Lyric Sojourn.

Later in the month, there will be chances to meet and greet with more local authors, including possibly a few New York Times Bestsellers March 13. The Liberty Bay book clubs will also be getting into the celebration, culminating with a big book club mixer on March 26.

However what’s more is the history the store has had, not only over the past decade in downtown Poulsbo, but even further, over the past 30 years.

Suzanne Droppert, the current owner of Liberty Bay, bought it from Ann and Dale Shotwell back when the bookstore was located in the building that now houses Marina Market. A little over a year late Droppert moved the store to its current location.

But before that, it had been in selling books in downtown Poulsbo dating all the way back to 1977.
