WEEKEND WROCK | Coldnote smoothes up Slip 45
Coldnote takes Seattle battle of the bands, sets course for Slip 45, Bainbridge set to honor Bob and Joni and a Kane Hodder costume party in Silverdale in this week's docket of rock.
FRIDAY, OCT. 24
MOS GENERATOR w/ Sower of Dischord, Floating Goat and Slave Traitor at Winterland (see Local Wrock Review).
COLDNOTE at 9 p.m., Oct. 24 at Slip 45, 715 Bay St. in Port Orchard. 21+, $5 cover.
Earlier this summer, Kitsap-based funk soul brothers Coldnote made its first venture to the Emerald City.
After seasoning itself for the past few years at summer festivals and smaller joints around Kitsap, the five-piece entered a multi-week Gorilla Productions Battle of the Bands at Studio Seven this fall and unleashed its sound and style on Seattle.
Amidst a flurry of Irish, punk, metal and more hard rock-ness at the finals Oct. 10, Coldnote stepped to the stage with its r&b-flavored funk rock and smoothed it out, winning the battle out of more than 60 bands decided by audience participation.
And for the spoils, they’re headed into the studio and back to Studio Seven Nov. 5. But first they’ll be groovin’ the Shipwreck Lounge this Friday at Slip 45 in Port Orchard.

SATURDAY, OCT. 25
A TRIBUTE TO BOB DYLAN and JONI MITCHELL from 5:30-9:30 p.m., Oct. 25 at the Pegasus Coffeehouse, 131 Parfitt Way on Bainbridge Island. All ages, $5 (suggested) admission.
On the format of the island’s traditional Hank and Patsy summer festival, Bainbridge blues guitarist Mark Hoffman has organized a four-hour salute to Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell this month.
Fifteen or so locals are slated to play folk legend covers on the evening, while others are encouraged to come down play a tune or two “with your Bob & Joni cronies,” (their words, not mine).
Sounds to me like a re-creation/reunion of that whole 60’s folksy coffee shop scene, only with a little more gray hair beneath the sunglasses and beatnik hats.
To sign up to play, call or e-mail Mark at (206) 842-9916, email@example.com.
HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARTY w/ KANE HODDER, Ken Parker, Madrid, ...Is Electric and Oceans at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at Jackson Hall, 9161 Washington Ave. in Silverdale. All Ages, $8 cover.
With its moniker taken from the name of the actor who played Jason in the “Friday the 13th” movies in addition to the plethora of scary sonic costumes in its well-stocked arsenal, Kane Hodder could be the ultimate Halloween band.
Though word has it their love for movies and love for horror don’t always translate into great costumes, it does seem to make for some damn fine danceable post hardcore. Both of which you can find at Jackson Hall this Saturday.
