Poulsbo’s Greer Gates received a $1,000 scholarship from the Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program this week for his efforts to raise money for cancer research. Gates, 12, founded “Jewels of Hope,” a handcrafted jewelry project that has raised more than $12,000 for the American Cancer Society. Gates was one of about 200 scholarship winners nationwide, and is eligible to become one of 10 people who will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship at the end of July.
