Poulsbo native mobilized to Fort Dix

Army Spec. Timothy W. Barnes of Poulsbo has been mobilized and activated at Fort Dix, N.J., in preparation for deployment to serve in support of either Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom.

He is a member of the 467th Transportation Company, Tacoma.

The soldiers are normally activated from Army Reserve or Army National Guard units from throughout the United States. They go through a series of in-processing procedures and training classes that prepare them for skills they may need and situations they may face in their deployed environment.

Barnes is a watercraft operator with three years of military service.

He is the son of Eugene E. Barnes of Poulsbo and brother of Andrew S. Barnes of Bremerton.

He is a 2007 graduate of North Kitsap High School.

NK grad earns spot in Golden Key International Honour Society

Jessica Wenke, a 2007 graduate of North Kitsap High, was recently inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society, a group that recognizes the top 15 percent of students at the University of Washington. Wenke earned an associate’s degree from Olympic College and is studying English, linguistics and literature.

She was named to the Dean’s Scholar list at the University of Washington in the fall 2009 and winter 2010.
