Teaming up with a local food bank, Poulsbo’s local firefighters are doing more than fighting fires, they’re growing a garden to help feed families in need.

Earning his Master Gardener certification last year, Poulsbo fire department Fleet Manager Brett Annear began a mission to start a spring garden. For the past several weeks, firefighters and their families have been volunteering their time, equipment and resources to prepare garden beds.

“It’s a neighbor helping neighbor thing. Our community is important, and it is worth the time and effort to help the people who need help. It is wonderful to see our fire department, commissioners, family, friends and local businesses helping out our community in an economy such as the one we are currently facing,” Annear said.
