Longmates celebrate 60th anniversary

Elmer and Agnes Longmate will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on April 16. Their children and grandchildren are hosting a reception at 1 p.m. April 18 at the Driftwood Keys clubhouse in Hansville. Friends are welcome to attend.

Elmer, a 1945 graduate of North Kitsap High, earned a living as a merchant marine, and with a career in Washington State Ferries (WSF), from which he retired in 1982.

Agnes was born in Teri, Mont., and moved to Poulsbo with her family in 1942. She is a 1948 graduate of North Kitsap High. After high school, she worked in the WSF galley. She later became a housewife and homemaker for Elmer and their three children.

The two met on the Kingston ferry dock while she was headed to work and he was headed ashore. They were married on April 16, 1949. They made their first home in South Kingston, raising their children on their family farm until 1985 when they moved to Driftwood Keys in Hansville.
