POULSBO — Barbara Jane (Herard) Sather died July 5 after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was 82.

Barbara was born Sept. 27, 1930 in Puyallup and grew up in Auburn.  She graduated from Central Washington State University with a degree in education and home economics.

She and Birger Sather married in 1958 and moved to Redmond, where Birger worked as a veterinarian.

Barbara worked as a teacher in different venues. She enjoyed winemaking, art and was a skilled seamstress. She was an avid runner, soccer player, ballroom and belly dancer, and loved to garden and travel.

Barbara was a member of Holy Family, St. Jude’s and St. Olaf’s parishes, Boys and Girls State government education program, and American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her daughters, Sondra, Paula and Jeri-Lyn; sons, Denis and Steven; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brother, Marvin; and sisters d’Elaine, Yvonne and Rose.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated July 27, noon, at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Poulsbo. Interment will follow at Tahoma National Cemetery. Sign the online guest book at
