Selma Helen Reninger | Passages
POULSBO — Selma Helen “Sally” Reninger died due to complications of dementia on May 27 while being cared for by Hospice in Puyallup. She was 87.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1925 to Engebret Lakenes and Alma Oen at home in Poulsbo. Her ancestors were Nels Henrikson Oen, Agnetta Erickson and Chris Lakenes, who in 1888 homesteaded and purchased land that is now bordered by Lakenes Road. She was a member of the Vinland Lutheran Church and attended the one-room Vinland School as a child.
She was salutatorian of her class of 1944 at North Kitsap High School. She married Mack S. Reninger of the U.S. Navy on March 10, 1945. They celebrated their 68th anniversary this year.
For more than 60 years, she was an active member of the Community of Christ in Richland and Bremerton. She loved children and taught Christian education classes for many years. She also volunteered in her community by assisting with blood donations and at the polls on election days. She is remembered for her generous spirit.
She is survived by her husband, Mack Reninger; and children, Steven and Vicki Reninger, and Susan and Tom Webber, all of Puyallup. In lieu of flowers, her family prefers donations in her name to Outreach International (www.outreach-international.org) or Community of Christ (www.cofchrist.org).
Celebrations of her life will be held in Puyallup in June and in September in Richland.
