POULSBO — The second annual community Marine Science Center Fundraiser is hitting the streets of the Viking City today. Headquartered at and hosted by Liberty Bay Books on Front Street, the event will reel in funds for the center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Make marine-themed T-shirts or small wooden boats, chalk up the sidewalks, join a scavenger hunt and try your luck in giveaways. Also on the agenda, marine book discounts, special menus from local restaurants and more.
Barbara Helen Berger, author and artist, will read from her beloved children’s books, notably “Thunder Bunny” and “A Lot of Otters.” Berger, of Bainbridge Island, received the honor of an Island Treasure Award in 2006 from the Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council.
The Marine Science Center, at 18743 Front Street, will be open during the downtown fundraiser and welcomes visitors.
Last year, Liberty Bay Books raised nearly $5,000 for the center. The bookstore, owned by Suzanne Droppert, hopes to surpass that amount this year.
