SILVERDALE — Kitsap’s Navy installations received the Secretary of the Navy’s 2012 Energy and Water Management awards.

All award money will be used by the commanding officer for quality of life improvements or additional projects for energy and water awareness and conservation.

Awards are based upon fiscal year 2011 accomplishments. Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport was selected as the top Shore Supported Command and awarded $35,000. According to the award, Keyport uses “innovative energy efficiency measures” to achieve consistent energy consumption reduction.  Keyport is authorized to fly the SECNAV Energy Flag for one year.

Naval Base Kitsap received the Gold level achievement award. “Receipt of this award is a testament to the commitment we have to being good stewards of our resources,” said Capt. Pete Dawson, base commanding officer. “We recognize energy as a strategic asset and will continue to do our part to reduce consumption.”

Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility was awarded the Blue level of achievement, indicating it has “an excellent energy program.”
