POULSBO — The Poulsbo Fire Department Board of Fire Commissioners presented Battalion Chief Jeff Russell with an “Award of Excellence” plaque for his diligent work in helping to preserve the district’s excellent fire protection rating, potentially saving citizens significant amounts on their insurance rates.

The Fire Commissioners expressed their “appreciation, gratitude, respect, and admiration for Battalion Chief Jeffrey Russell for his excellence in serving as the Department’s coordinator and liaison with the Washington State Rating Bureau (WSRB) as it performed the first comprehensive evaluation of the Department’s fire protection capabilities in over 20 years.”

The report examined fire protection capabilities, as they relate to fire insurance rating, within Poulsbo and the outlying communities of Kitsap County Fire District 18 Poulsbo Fire Department.

The rating for Poulsbo has remained “Protection Class 4.” For the unincorporated area of District 18 it has remained, and in some areas been improved to, a “Protection Class 5.”
