James Rodney Ferrell, Lt. Col. (USAF, Ret.), of Poulsbo, died March 26 at Hospice Care Center in Bremerton. He was 90.

Son of James Leonard and Maizie (Fertig) Ferrell. Born Nov. 29, 1920 in Huntington, W.Va. Graduated from Huntington High School in 1939 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Trained as an aircraft mechanic, accepted for pilot training, graduated in class 42X, an experimental, accelerated pilot-training course. Served in the Pacific during WWII, flying B-29s and C-54s in the Berlin Airlift. Flew B-29s again in the Korean Conflict and C-124s and C-141s in Vietnam.

Survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Mimi (Baird); daughter, Loriann Ferrell-Soto; grandsons, Alex and Christopher Soto-Ferrell; sister, Audrey Ferrell Dyck. His daughter, Peggy Lea, preceded him in death in 1976.

Visitation 10 a.m. on March 31 at The Stone Chapel Poulsbo Mortuary, followed by a service at 10:30 a.m.
