James Downey was born March 26, 1919 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
A graduate of Seattle’s Roosevelt High School, he attended WSU, served in the U.S. Navy 1943-45, and attended Cornish School of Allied Arts, Seattle.
He was a contributing cartoonist to Golf Digest, and served as president of Kitsap Golf and Country Club for two years and as president of the Warren Ave. PeeWees. Jim worked at PSNS and PERA(CV), retiring in 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Hiroko; and his children, Kathleen (Bob) Hogan, of Poulsbo; Margaret (Paul) Scheyer, Larry (Idena) Downey, Fred Downey, all of Bremerton; Patricia Vaughn, of Silverdale; Naoka (Naoomi) Narisawa, and Keith Ota, of Japan; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is scheduled April 2, 2 p.m., in Bremerton United Methodist Church, 1150 Marine Drive, Bremerton. Memorials preferred to the State President’s Diabetes Research Fund, c/o Eagles Auxiliary 3586, P.O. Box 2412, Poulsbo, WA. 98370.
