POULSBO — Outdoor enthusiasts have a new place to shop for supplies in Poulsbo. Big 5 opened last week in Olhava’s College Marketplace with its offerings of sports equipment and apparel for North Kitsapers of all shapes and sizes. College Marketplace is at the intersection of Highway 3 and State Route 305.
The chain, which brought about 15 jobs to North Kitsap, has 387 stores spanning from Washington to Texas. Poulsbo’s store is the 44th in Washington; the closest Big 5 in Kitsap is in Silverdale.
Poulsbo was the ideal place for a new location, said Rick Gridley, director of public affairs for Big 5.
“We saw in Poulsbo steady growth and a vibrant community that we felt would be a great environment for a new business and I’m sure we won’t be disappointed,” he said.
The store received a warm welcome, said Manager Krista Baker, who grew up in the Puget Sound area and frequented Big 5 stores for supplies.
“I think once we got everything up, it’s just business as usual,” Baker said. “People are pretty thrilled.”
