Kingstonites in the business of relaxation
KINGSTON — They don’t just offer a service, they offer a full-spectrum relaxation package.
Kingstonites Rosalie and Shirely Inman, a mother and daughter duo, respectively, are the new owners of Moxy Salon, formerly Hot Tans Cool Cuts, and have turned the tanning and hair salon establishment into a one-stop shop for all one's pampering needs.
In addition to cuts, colors and tans, patrons can enjoy Moxy Salon’s expanded services: a full-day spoiling at the spa with facials, massage, manicures, waxing and makeup.
“We want people to feel welcome as soon as they come in and have a full day of relaxing,” Rosalie says. “We’re packaging an experience and not just a service.”
The products themselves are also indulgent. The peppermint hair-clarifying shampoo is like aromatherapy for the scalp, as its coolness tingles and soothes.
In addition to herself, Rosalie — whose specialty is razor cuts — welcomes four hair stylists, two nail technicians, a licensed massage therapist and a licensed esthetician to Moxy, all of whom are armed with several years of salon-style pampering experience.
The stylists rapport with one another creates a comfortable aura, as they carry on casual conversations like old friends with each other and the clients.
The Inmans took over ownership about two months ago and jumped right in to create the relaxing atmosphere they desire for their clients.
They’re painting the walls in cool and neutral based colors, like the deep purple hue that already produces a calming vibe.
The decorations are simple, uniform — each stylist has a bamboo cabinet to keep their tools of the trade in — and uncluttered so even one’s spirit feels free as they walk through the doors.
Rosalie, a North Kitsap High graduate who has dreamed of owning her own salon, is even focusing on the littlest of details that make one feel cared for, like the mint placed on a new towel in each tanning bed.
Witnessing a dream come to fruition is incredibly exciting for Rosalie, which is evidenced by her enthusiasm as even the smallest of tweaks are accomplished.
“Sometimes it can be overwhelming because there are so many things, but overall it's been really cool,” Rosalie said, between greeting clients and answering phone calls Monday morning. “I got excited because we got stocked up on all the paper products. Just the little things we get excited about.”
But above all Rosalie is most jazzed about making others feel good about themselves, a major reason why she’s dreamed of owning a salon.
She remembers how a few hours at the salon would make her smile.
“I was always interested in hair and nails and getting my own done,” Rosalie said. “I thought these gals have cool jobs. They get to take care of people and make them look good and really help people in a personal way.”
Moxy Salon, 10945 Highway 104 located next to Henery Hardware is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Walk-ins are welcome.
Moxy Salon’s official grand opening is Aug. 15 and will be a full day event with food, music, mini beauty classes, door prizes and even a fundraiser for the Kingston High lights.
