BREMERTON — Professional mediator Greg Abell leads a one-day training workshop, “Engaging Challenging Conversations,” Feb. 20, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the United Way, 647 4th St., Bremerton.

The training is Leadership Kitsap’s fourth annual leadership skill-building event. It’s designed to help participants:
— Identify the elements of difficult conversations and how they impact personal and professional relationships.
— Recognize their role and responsibility in managing conflict situations.
— Understand conversational styles and how to operate in stressful situations.
— Learn a framework for approaching difficult conversations.
— Practice skills needed for holding difficult conversations, such as self-management, active listening, asking intentional questions, and effective disengagement.
Abell is a senior partner with Sound Options Group. He has served as president of the Kitsap County Dispute Resolution Center, president of the Washington Mediation Association, and senior consultant to the Consortium for Appropriate Dispute Resolution in Special Education. He is an adviser for the Leadership Kitsap Foundation.
