POULSBO — Mora Iced Creamery on Bainbridge Island was named as the best ice cream in the U.S. by Food & Wine Magazine.  The company, which also has stores in Kingston and Poulsbo, was praised for its artisanal flavors, like lavender and rose petal, as well as for more unique specialty flavors like sabayon (described as an “Italian Marsala wine custard”), and pear sorbet.

“We hand squeeze every lemon, orange, lime,” owner Jerry Perez said. “We make everything from scratch. We don’t use any premixed powder [or] magic ingredient.”

The eight-year-old artisan ice cream company has won several awards in the last few years, including a Reader’s Choice Award by West Sound Home & Garden readers in the March “Best of Food & Wine” issue. Last year, Seattle Weekly named it the best ice cream parlor in the area.
